Spring 2008 Fashion

Spring fashion is always tres chic…feminine, flirty and fun. Although I did not go to any runway shows :(    I have taken a look at a few resources of my own.

Colors

Spring colors are traditionally pastels… uplifting colors simulated from the petals of spring flowers.  Fittingly uplifting, as bright shiny spring follows harsh deadly winter. Everyone is ready by spring to shed the sweaters, leggings, and wool coats to don lighter fare. The colors I saw on the runway were pink, plenty of white, black, and gray; and light blue to name a few.

Loose and free

The only structured clothing I noticed was in the form of suit coats and business pants. Even these items, which are formal by nature, were in light colors… including a lot of white. The majority of the spring fashion runway was filled with frilly skirts, flowing dresses, cocktail dresses galore, bell sleeves, even suits with feminine frills! I saw wide sashes tied around dresses, blouses, and pencil skirts. Luckily there were enough masculine pieces to balance out the inordinate number of frills! To be honest, after looking at spring fashions I felt so stuffed with sweetness I got a tummy ache.

Ruffles have ridges… and so does spring fashion. Lots of ruffles.

I did not care for Ralph Lauren’s brightly colored pink, yellow, and bell pepper green jockey shirts and dresses. Gag me! They did represent preppy to a T. That’s the point, right?

I saw way too many floral prints for my liking. They were everywhere, especially plastered across every casual dress. I usually steer clear of floral prints anyway, but the dresses were also flowing chiffon, satin, and silk. Together it was a bit too much for me.

Anne of Green Gables would be thrilled…puffed sleeves were popular on the runway but luckily not in the extreme.

I love this skirt. My fave of what I saw!

High waisted pants were popular. High waists are alright by me… they smooth over a round butt. I saw a few slip dresses, and shifts were the thing too.

I love spring! I love sunshine, flowers, and chic clothing. I actually dress very feminine… probably a surprise after my earlier ranting. Overall I enjoyed the spring fashions… but one fact will always remain. I believe flowers belong in the garden, not on my clothing.
