Mineral Makeup is all the rage. Don’t get me wrong, I use it too and love it. I think its ironic, though, how mineral makeup is marketed as a "new" product that is revolutionary as if no one has thought of it before.

Before the makeup industry women wore makeup- hundreds of years ago- and makeup was obviously not mass-produced. Instead makeup was derived from what the human race knew and had access to- minerals.

Zinc oxides have been used for hundreds of years. Any type of makeup from history was derived from a natural product. Some kind of mineral or animal fat was used in all makeup.

Now we like to think that makeup is cleaner and superior to the "archaic" makeup of the past. We all want to think our culture is progressive, right? I’m sure that’s the same thing that women centuries ago thought when they discovered products from the earth that would enhance their beauty. One must wonder, are we really that different today? Scientifically society today has undeniably progressed. There are so many benefits! But the cosmetic companies who are making mineral makeup this minute are not far from the women who made their own makeup centuries ago. I will admit that I would much rather buy makeup that is mass-produced in a sanitary, certified facility than make it myself in my home- although I could mix some creams and colors. This type of homemade makeup would probably be better for my skin, especially if made from natural materials. Manmade materials are the same that give women rashes and allergic reactions. My point? In many ways makeup hundreds of years ago was far superior to the mass-produced makeup of today. Mineral makeup is one step closer to those old and in some ways superior ways.
