I am fascinated with mineral makeup. I was not aware that this special natural cosmetic has been around since the ’70’s. Mineral makeup is available in many colors and is touted to be anti-acne, anti-inflammatory, and contain SPF properties naturally.
I borrowed this woman’s illustration of the beauty of mineral makeup from her squidoo page at http://www.squidoo.com/NaturalMineralMakeUp. The makeup covers up her Rosacea so well that its virtually non-existent… and over time it will decrease the effects of Rosacea because of the ant-inflammatory effects.
The benefits of such a natural product are numerous. Mineral makeup lasts long and is water-resistant- it won’t "melt off" in the hot sun or while exercising. Mineral makeup contains zinc oxide which is known to fight and prevent acne. Toothpaste used to contain zinc oxide and used to be a possible acne treatment. This is where the home remedy "myth" that toothpaste fights acne comes from. However I would not recommend toothpaste. Not only does it not contain zinc oxide, toothpaste will dry out your skin- a temporary solution that can cause a reaction from the skin causing even more oil production.
Some complain that mineral makeup can magnify the appearance of fine lines. I have not seen this effect, although I can imagine that the light reflecting properties of mineral makeup and the shimmer could magnify flaws. Others complain that mineral makeup causes dryness and is an irritant to the skin- just the opposite of claims of the benefits of mineral makeup.
I believe that mineral makeup is a great solution for most woman and most skin types. Any makeup can cause reactions in some’s skin. Mineral makeup does not contain fillers such as parabens nor dyes or fragrances, so it will prevent most skin types from getting the same reactions they see after using traditional makeup. My personal opinion? I love mineral makeup! I say at least give it a try…there’s no harm in trying.
