3 Easy Steps to Finding the Right Bra Fit

July 31st, 2010 · No Comments

Step # 1. Band Size

To find band size use a fabric tape measure. Wrap it behind your back and measure the chest directly under the breasts.

Measuring the cup size can seem tricky. With the right instructions its a no brainer.

Step #2. Cup Size.1

Wrap the fabric tape measure around your bust at the widest part.

Hint: Do not press the tape measure into the breast.

Step #3. Cup Size.2

Take number from #2 (Cup Size.1) and subtract the band size from it.

If the difference is less than 1″ the cup size will be AA. A cup size A is 1″ difference, 2″ is a B, 3″ is a C, 4″ is a D, 5″ is a DD or E, 6″ is a DDD or F, and 7″ difference is a DDDD or a G cup size.

Always try on the bra before purchasing. Sizing can differ according to make and brand.

Some sources quote as many as 80% of women as purchasing the wrong size of bra. Not only does this make bra shopping a waste of time, its also a waste of money as well as great stress and strain on the body. Wearing the wrong size of bra can create innumerable health problems such as back aches, muscle pain and tension, and speeding up signs of aging.

Who wants to speed up the natural aging process by purchasing the wrong fit of bra, thus allowing for quicker breast sagging? The more popular bra shopping mistakes are bands that are too loose and cups that are too small. This is both unflattering and uncomfortable for a woman. Breasts are left hanging by a bra that is too loose. Additionally, too tight of a bra will cause pressure marks under the clothing and on the body. So not attractive!

In addition to problems with a woman’s beauty, the wrong bra size also causes problems with a woman’s comfort level and potentially even her health. Too loose of a bra will put additional pressure on a woman’s back. It can also cause rubbing and irritation as the bra straps and band rub against the body. Too tight of a bra will inhibit proper circulation within the breasts. It can also cause pain by pinching and cutting into the body.

Finding the right bra size is not difficult and can be done at home. Most mistakes in bra fittings occur at the band. Band size used to be widely taught to be chest size plus 5 inches. This is no longer the case. The old fashioned bras did not have any stretch to them due to the lack of elastic where modern bras have plenty of elastic in their stitching.
